DevBlog #13: Out of this World

I suppose the world of Answer has some other worldly visitors...

Have I ever mentioned that I despise tentacle monsters?

These guys definitely look like they're going to be a handful, especially if they're going to come at you in a group like that!

The big guy in the middle will give you a good smack around if you're not well equipped.  The little guys are easy to pick off, but anything in a hoard will surely give you a headache.

Aside from them coming in groups like that, it doesn't seem like they'll do much else to our brave Knight, aside from physical damage...unlike a slithery boss we know of.

As always, please give us a follow if you're enjoying what you see!  You can access all of our social media off to the right side bar.

Here's a sneak peek for our next blog!

Let us know if you can guess what they are!

Thanks and see you guys soon!

DevBlog #12: Enjoying the Heat

Hey, guys!

I have to say that it is really starting to boil around here!  We're getting constant 30°C (that's about 86°F for you Fahrenheit people)!

Our team is still chugging away, but this week has definitely been a little uneventful.

We did get a spiffy new game icon though!

Also, we've added a batch of sound effects as well.  It lacks a bit of context if we were to just post it, so I'll make sure we get some footage of it in action!

We've also been struggling with the font the we initially chose out.  Those of you who saw some of the early gameplay mock screenshot and the live gameplay last month might know what we're talking about.

Our programmer managed to get his hands on a prospective new font, so hopefully we'll be able to stop dealing with the letters and words clipping into each other!

Anyways, thanks for sticking with us!

We'll see you again soon!

DevBlog #10: It Works!

Guess what!!

It's actually on the device!

Thank you so much for everyone that's been following us!

Here are some interesting things that currently happen in the build we've been looking at this week:

  • The screen will pause when you exit out of the app!  We haven't encountered those nasty situations where the app decides to reset itself when you do that yet!
  • You can't exactly have "real" fights yet.  The monsters seem to be on steroids and they'll take you out by Round 3.  We're attempting to work out whether there is a balancing issue or something more sinister.
  • We've got proper scaling on the mobile!  However, the screen width is affecting how fast the character is moving across the screen...

Not really sure if you can call those milestones, but it's progress none the less!

Looks like our programmer will be working on the looting system next...it will be super awesome when we can pick up the goodies the monsters drop!

I'll see if I can squeeze out more info from the guys over the weekend!

Make sure to follow us over on Twitter so you don't miss out!  Also check out our Facebook if you get the chance!

Until next time!

DevBlog #9: These are Ghosts...Right?

Welcome back to the blog!

If you follow us on Twitter, you might've seen the sneak peek for the monster this week...

Is it me, or do they look a little suspicious?

DevBlog #8: Suprise!

Hey everyone!

As you can probably tell, we were absent last week!

There's going to be a slight change-up is posting schedule, as several of us are getting quite busy with work and school again.

But we have a little surprise for you!

If you've been following us for a while, you'll probably have notices some familiar looking monsters that have been showcased on the blog before!

As you can tell, we're still working on the UI to make sure all the buttons stop crashing into each other...they really can't decide who's supposed to be where.

Another thing we're currently working on, is looking for a new font!  The one we initially picked out has proven to give us some problems, all the D's look like backwards C's!

Let us know how you think things are coming along!

Make sure to follow us on Twitter and check us out on Facebook!

Thanks for the support guys!

DevBlog #7: Cuteness Overload!

This week, I'm introducing you to some of our cutest enemies!

I'm really going to say I have a hard time even thinking about slaying them!

These girls, although cute, have some quite interesting names...

Immortal Princess, Priestess of the Forest, and Successor of the Tribe.

I'd have to say they look quite worrysome...

The Immortal Princess is the Boss of their group.  They're not the strongest of the bunch, but they'll sure take a good hit or two.

It seems like the Boss will drop some items that will increase the chance of enemy encounter, or an item that will let you know if you'll cross paths with another Boss.  Pretty helpful if you ask me!

This set of enemies is a definite favorite of mine!

What sprites have interested you thus far?

Let us know by commenting here, or on our Twitter or Facebook!

So long!

DevBlog #6: Every Knight Needs His Trusty Companion

What Knight doesn't have a companion that they can trust their life with?

Well...maybe not the entirety of his life...but just a good portion of it.

Some of you may have noticed that there is a little fella next to our Knight in the avatars around our social media!

It would be this little guy right here:

As you can see, he's got a couple more buddies with him.

The King Penguin is absolutely ballin' if you ask me.

The Knight's 'follower' will give him boosted stats, depending on which pet you end up keeping.  Followers seem to have some sort of beef with each other, so you can only ever keep one of them at a time.  Not to mention that they do have a tendency to possibly leave the Knight sometimes...temperamental much?  But that probably has something to do with the lack of Faith that they have in the Knight over time.  Just don't make it angry is what I'll be sticking with.

Here's a darker looking bunch for ya:

Wait, how does one get a Follower, you ask?  Well if you're Famous enough, someone's bound to come along...right?

Next week, we'll release another set of monsters!  Something it seems like quite a few of you are interested in!

Thanks for tuning in again, and make sure to Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for all the in between updates!

DevBlog #5: The Knight's Arsenal

Welcome back to the blog!

This week, we've managed to sneak ourselves into the Knight's arsenal...hopefully he won't get too mad at us taking a peek at his goods.

First off, every knight's best friend--his sword!

These babies know how to deal that damage right.  It will never fail you in a good ol' fashioned sword fight.  However, it doesn't seem like they are too sturdy...especially the ones that hit harder.  Make sure not to break it!

Next we have those two-handed axes.

They're heavy and definitely won't break as easy as those hard-hitting swords do.  They do lack a bit of power, in exchange for their longevity.

Finally, we have lances.

Rumor has it that the lances have the most balanced stats, great for dealing a steady flow of damage, but not having it tap out on you so easily.

It seems like the Knight has so other weapons in the shadows...a little too dark for me to go check it out for now.  I definitely don't want to overstay my welcome.

I've heard of rumors where some monsters are carrying some rather unique weapons.  I wonder how one would get their hands on those!

As always, the Knight prides himself on packing light, so he ever only holds onto one weapon at a time during his journeys.

Hopefully he'll show us all that niftier stuff soon!

He did mention something about keeping a pet...what do knights keep as pets anyways?

Whatever it is, I just hope they don't bite!

See you next week!

DevBlog #4: The World of Answer...and Its Cats

Welcome to DevBlog #4!

This week, we’re looking at the Felines of Answer!

Personally, I’m a little afraid of what the spooky black one might do...I hear that its current street name is the “Feline Caster”.  As of late, it doesn’t seem like the Felines will have any special stat boosts or unique abilities (like how the Slime King has his special ability).

I’d like to keep the nerdy blue one as a pet.

Last week I also mentioned that we would show you a little more of our world!

For those of you who have been following us for a while longer, you may have seen these locations:

As well as their nighttime counterparts:

I’ve been informed that these locations will be the locations available when we release.  I really hope that we might be able to see more after release!

During our last meeting, we discussed how the day/night cycle may work in Answer.  It was quite a toss up!  It felt to a couple of us that having the in-game day/night cycle be affected by real time would increase immersion in a roleplaying game.  At the same time, we didn’t want players to feel restricted in their gameplay by whether or not they could play during a certain time of day.  In the end, we couldn’t come to a solid conclusion, but we definitely feel it could add a certain flavor to the game!

This led to the discussion of whether or not certain monsters might spawn at certain times, and I was told that it would be likely!  It appears that although they may come out to play at certain times, it doesn’t seem to be that they would be necessarily stronger...maybe a bit spookier though! ;)

Oh!  What’s this!?

Looks like the Felines might have something special to drop after all…

Look out for an update on Monday after our weekly meeting to see what’s going to happen for next week’s DevBlog!

See ya~!

DevBlog #3: This Sticky Substance...S--slimes!?

Welcome to nostalgia!

Remember I said last week that we would be meeting some very familiar monsters?

Well here they are!

My favorites are the King Slime and the Fairy Slime.

At the moment, the King Slime has the ability to possibly spawn another Slime when it is killed--makes sense right?  I love how decked out he is.

But seriously, didn't he get the memo on no capes?

Here’s a zoom-in of his Majesty:

I’ve been told that he can drop almost anything...

The Fairy Slime, on the other hand is just so adorable!  Its current abilities are unknown yet, but I wouldn’t have any problems fighting this little guy all day!

Next week, we show you a little more of the world we are creating, as well as a monster type that all ladies are a little crazy for...and maybe even a little surprise!

Until then!

DevBlog #2: Introducing Our Knight...and His Typical Day

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all the support shown so far!

This week, let me officially introduce you to our Knight!

Those of you who follow us on Twitter will have seen him make a cameo there!

He enjoys keeping his life very simple by solving all of his problems with yes or no answers.  Why make life any more difficult than it already is...

And of course, a Knight's typical day can't be complete without some monster slaying with his trusty armadillo!

He's also insanely impatient...which leads to him never staying in one place for more than a minute.  Of course, it also depends on what kind of stuff he manages to pick up on his journey.

Next week, we'll meet some of our family favorites that never fail to make it to the party!

Thanks for sticking with us and we hope to see you again real soon!

We've got our Facebook and Twitter up and running, so feel free to Like and Follow us there for little snippets throughout the week!

DevBlog #1: Welcome to Project Answer!

Hey guys! Welcome to our first devblog for "Answer"! We've been in development for about 6 weeks, and I have to say that things are moving quite fast! Our art director tells me that he's got quite a bit of work done (and when I say a bit...I kind of mean a lot). During our last meeting he mentioned working on the last couple of baddies that would complete our squad of release enemies. Here's a screenshot of a test build our lead programmer put together for me:

The game is being developed in the Unity 5 engine by a 2-man team (plus me!). The above screenshot showcases our super casual, RPG, dungeon-crawler that is being worked on.

Right now we're trying to get all our ducks in a row before releasing an actual build.

I can't wait to click all the things.

Until next time!

Will you pet the cat?
